The mountains of Iraq, a beautiful and solitary landscape.

In the mountain regions of Iraq, areas of great solitude alternate with densely populated urban centres. While some mountain tops are covered by eternal snows, in the valleys, below the grass-land, the scenery and countryside are those of a humid and temperate area.
The lack of the vegetation is one of the weak points of Iraq's natural habitat. The forests cover only a small area (apart from palm plantations in the south).
This is the reason why reafforestation is one of the greatest concerns of Iraq today. At the present the only provinces with an adequate afforestation are Arbil, Nineveh, Kirkuk, and Diala.
In the northern part of Iraq, the border with Iran, Turkey, and Syria is marked by Kurdistan "Land of the Kurds" one of the main ethnic minorities of the country and an integral part of the Iraqi nation.
The Kurds have their own language and culture, and since 1974 they have been granted their national righs.
The main attractions (Antique sites, resorts, & waterfalls) at the Kurdish self rule Governorate are;
Amadiya Antique Castle - The Abbasid Bridge - Zawita - Suara Tuga - Ashawa - Sarsang - Anshki - Araden - Sulaf - at Dahok Governorate.
Sarchinar - Dokan lake - Derbendikhan lake - Ahmad Awa - at Sulaimaniya Governorate.
Salahuddin - Sara Rush - Shaqlawa - The plain of Harir Batass - Gali Ali Beg - Beikhal - Jindian - Derbendi Rayat - Haj Omran - at Arbil Governorate.
